Poor Nepali!

themalaysianinsider : Freeze on Nepali security jobs
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 — The government has announced an immediate freeze on employing Nepalis as security guards and might send back, in batches, about 300,000 already hired on the grounds that they might pose a security risk.
This is the most absurd excuse one can think of to lay off those hard working Nepali guards! I have worked with them before, i can say that they are reliable, hardworking & very dedicated in doing their work!

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar told Parliament that too many Nepalis were employed in the security industry and most had military training and could handle firearms.
Only now our Minister knows that there are too many Nepali guards in the country????? You mean you didnt know and didn't check beofre this????

"They pose a possible security risk," Syed Hamid said.
The way i see it now, politician posed more security risks than the Nepali guards!

Lawyers and human rights activists dismiss the security fears, saying the government is looking for excuses to create jobs for unemployed Malaysians whose numbers have risen from about 3,000 in September last year to around 80,000.
Spot on!

"They all have military training, which can be a security risk to the country," he said. "If the security industry has only foreigners, it will have an impact on national security if not handled well."
Does that mean you did not handle it well since it now becomes security threat & pose national security, Mr Minister ????

Syed Hamid said locals in the security industry numbered about 200,000.
Have you seen our local guards???? I dare not say all of them but surely most of them became guard because they have no other choice. Most of them are not interested and couldn't care less. Their performance are surely not up to Nepali's standard! Say what you what to say but that's the truth! I know it and you know it!

"They are just finding excuses to get rid of the Nepali security guards," said Irene Fernandez of Tenaganita, a human rights NGO.
What a lousy excuse! Maybe next he will say that those taekwondo, karate exponents in Malaysia need to be sent to other countries because they pose security threat too.

"Going by experience, Nepalis are hardworking, committed and very law-abiding," she said, urging the government to respect national and international labour codes when sending home retrenched workers.
I totally agree!

Truly Rich Brunei

Brunei is a rich country! I think many of you would have known this but do you know how rich? Recently i passed by Brunei on my way to Limbang, a town in Sarawak but the shortest way to there from Kota Kinabalu was going through Brunei. The first indication that Brunei was truly rich was the number of fire hydrants they have along the road.....there was one for every maybe 100 meters...its really crazy! There was hydrant even there was no house or building in vicinity. The only reason i can figure why they need so many hydrants was Brunei has so much oil that they were worried that someone throw out a cigarette bud on the ground and caused fire....really really filthy rich!!!

Besides hydrants, Brunei also has really numerous number of signboards along the road. Its like every 30 meters or less you will see one signboard. It must be really good doing signboard business in Brunei.

They even have one signboard for those want to go for a swim.......in their car!

The Little Nyonya

I have heard about this series before and even seen the DVD but i did not pay any attention as i thought its just the normal series with full of crying and with never ending storyline.
How wrong i was! I watched about 20 minutes of this series during my Chinese New Year visit to a relative house and fell in love with it instantly. I went straight to purchase the whole series.
The story revolved around a nyonya girl and her daily life. It was set in Melaka & Singapore during 1940s-1950s. I am a Peranakan(straits born) so i can really relate to the story. To those who plan to marry a Nyonya girl, this movie is a good reference.
Trust me, the series is worth watching, the story line was superb, the actors were brilliant, the research done was perfect.......just go and watchlah!!!

Land Of Sub Sub!

Once upon of time, there were 5 merchants who went to a faraway land called Bolehland to do business. The 5 brought with them a ship load of money...enough to build 100 bridges back in their homeland. The 5 went to meet a Bolehland top businessman and told him of their intention to invest in Bolehland.
"I represent everyone in Bolehland welcomes you my friends to do business in my beloved country! Anyway before you could do any business here, you need to know that the money you brougth would not be enough to build all the 30 bridges our country has planned! "
"...but the money is more than enough to build 100 bridges back in our country!"
"Shhh......dont so loud, you are lucky you were talking to me, if other people, they will ask you to go back to where ever you came from if you asked such question"
"We in Bolehland has this 'Subsub Culture'"
" Huh?"
"Basically when there is a project, we share!"
" I see, thats good but i dont see why the amount of money which is enough to build 100 bridges back in my homeland can only build 30 bridges here when you share?"
"Hahahaha....you all are really lucky you came to me. Since you brought me 20 camels & 20 sheeps just now, i share with you more about Subsub Culture....listen carefully...when i got a project say worth 1000 gold bar (GB), i need to sub it to another company, B since i dont know how to build anything, say for 700 GB then B will sub it to C for 500Gb and then sub it again for 300GB...and it goes on.....you got the picture"
" Wow...thats great...then we go just engage the one who quote the lowest price and build the bridge...but...why you said that the money we brought will not be enough to build 100 bridges???"
"Friend, you did not listen carefully......you cannot go to the tail without going through the head!"
"You mean i still need to pay 1000 GB eventhough i can get it built with 300GB????"
" Hahaha....you are a quick learner!"
"I still dont understand on why you will get the project when you dont even know how to build anything and yet you can still charge the highest?"
"Hahaha....its not what you know, its about who you know!"
"I see....i see......Thanks for the information but we decided to go home."
"Why?"
"We have learned from you, we will go home and spread this Subsub Culture and we will be the 'head' like you, who does nothing, spend nothing but make more money than the ones who did something!"
"Woi...woi.........dont run away......if you dont invest here, how can i continue to be the 'head'?...woi...woi..."

Recession Proof Job

'Son, what you want to be when you grow up? '
'I want to be an angkasawan!'
'Wow, thats great......you can carry out research and who knows, my son might be the one who find the cure for all sickness!!
"Research??? I dont want to be angkasawan to do research!"
"Huh? then why ......."
" Dad, i want to be angkasawan so that i can tour the space, be on the moon, take photos, write blogs.....you know, stuff that tourist does!"
"....but ....but....."
"Dont worry about the cost Dad, my teacher said we just hope that our government will buy something really expensive from Russia, America ....or China in the future, then we will get free ride to the moon!"
"When i come back to earth, i will conduct seminars, talks and what not ...im sure i will make millions like my teacher said"
"Besides that, Dad, do you know that it is recession- proof occupation......even when the whole world suffers from job loss, pay cut, retrenchment.......our government still give pay rise to angkasawan!..Isn't it good to be angkasawan! "
"......but it wouldn't be fair to the Rakyat who paid for your trip to the moon and later still pay for your pay rise during recession, dont you think?"
"No dad, the trip is going to be free.....its like when you bought a toothpaste and then you got the free toy car for me....remember?'
"I indirectly paid extra for the toy car you know?!"
"Nolah dad ......my teacher said its freeleh.....as for the pay rise, i earn itleh, you think its easy to sit in the space ship and doing nothing for so long...????...its going to be very boring....then when i come back i have to smile all the time , go here go there...penat tau"
"....besides, im sure the government got so much money to spend, thats why they give a pay rise to angkasawan even during recession.....my teacher said our government has a lot of money you know...."
"........mmmmmmmmm.......... "
"Dad, are you ok?"
" NO, im not OK.....tomorrow we are going to see your teacher and talk about all thing angkasawan thing......!
[Space Duo To enjoy better pay] - thestar 6/2/09
This is absurd! While the whole world is suffering from recession and thousands losing their job in our country by the day, the government decided that we need to give a better pay to 2 persons! I am not sure how low is the duo's salary but im sure they are better off than many of us, at least one was allowed to keep what he earned from seminars and talks.

The Minister in charge should crack his head to think of a way to tap all the knowledge the duo learned (if any) and channel back to the young ones more effectively so that we can really benefit from the space project. Currently, the only thing we heard was how handsome our Angkasawan is!!!

Can the Minister tell us what has been done specifically & what benefit has the Angkasawan project brought to our students and Malaysian public ???? Students are so eager to be Angkasawan now so that they can be famous, rich and see the the earth from outer space! i dont think we need to spend millions to tell our students that!!!!

So Mr Minister, we dont want to know what you can do to the DUO but we want to know what you can do to the RAKYAT!!!!

Welcome to Perak....Land Of Hopping!

Yes, this is the latest attraction in Perak....to watch "Made in Perak" frogs (MPs) hop....hop....and hop! It is sure more fascinating that watching ordinary frog hops as these MPs put on nice suits and fake smiles all the times. Besides that they also performed 'Now you see me, Now you dont' trick, they can just disappeared for a few days, when they came back, they were wearing different skin!
This special breed of frogs are also thick skinned, they dont care about their surrounding, the people....they can stare you straight in your eyes and lie without blinking. Didn't i tell you that the frogs can talk??? Of course they can, they are specially bred!
These frogs are also very obedient, they can easily adapt to new master. If you are interested, you can take 1 or two home. The price varies on the acts that they can perform. Anyway you must take extra precautions if you have one as the frogs tend to hop back to the old master if the old mastes has better flies to feed them.
So pls come to Perak and see the 'MPs' for yourself.....better be fast as the new Master might get bored with them soon and stopped them from public viewing, as they know the more you look the the 'MPs', the possibility you will puke is greater !
Note: The frogs are not edible, they stinks and they taste like shit!
Careful: The tongue is poisonous!

Mt Kinabalu is for everyone

First of all i wish to thank The Star for highlighting the rising cost to climb Mt Kinabalu.

I have climbed Mt Kinabalu twice and was planning to climb again before i saw the article, 500% increase in lodging cost, its a daylight robbery!

I never understand the rationale to privatise Unesco Heritage Site & a wonderful place like Mt Kinabalu. It was reported that Sutera Sanctuary Lodges (SSL) pays an annual resthouse fee of RM 986,000 to Sabah Park in exchange for the handling of lodge operation. At the first glance, it looks like a lot of money before you take out your calculator or abascus. It was reported that the Parks limits 192 people a day to climb the mountain. Since the waiting period is about 4-6 months before you can climb the mountain, we can safely assume that everyday there will be 192 people climbing the mountain. That means if the Park remain charging each person RM 30/night like that they did before the privatisation, it will generate RM 2,102,400 income per year. So its more than double the amount SSL paying the Park now. I might be over optimistic with my figure, so lets be a bit pessimistic and there is only 50% occupancy throughout the year, the amount will come to RM 1,051,200 which is still more than SSL paying the Park Authority??? The big question now is why The Park Authority wanted to privatise a golden egg laying goose for 20 years when they will get more by managing the mountain by themselve?????

According to the Minister in charge, the super expensive package was to discourage block booking by tour operators. Isnt there any other way to stop the operator to do block booking like blacklisting them? By the way, whats wrong with operator doing a block booking if they really have so many customers to cater to? If one operator is more hard working or more creative in promoting the mountain and gets more customers, by all means let them do the block booking, whats wrong with that?. As an operator they would need to know that the lodging is 100% secured before they can confirm the booking with the customers. We as the customer would be extremely angry with the operator who confirmed a booking and then tell us otherwise.

In short:

The privatisation was a mistake!

To privatise it for 20 years was a bigger mistake!

To rely on a private company whose sole intention is to make money to run a national treasure like Mt Kinabalu is even a bigger mistake!

To have a Minister who justified 500% increase in lodging price at Mt Kinabalu by saying that it is still cheaper than other parts of the world ......was the BIGGEST mistake by whoever put him in charge of Mt KK!

If you read the Star, 2 Feb 2009 (pg 12), it said " Talks on reducing cost to climb MT KK". The key word there was 'Talks', so you and i can rest be assured that there will be only talks until the agreement expires or till the next general election!

For now, you better tighten your belt so that you can save enough money to climb a mountain in your own country.

Remember what our Mr Minister said, its still cheaper than other part of the world and you and I should be grateful!!!!!

It looks like No Money, No Climb!
